David O’Brien & Hayley Hastings met working in hospitality and built a life around creating meaningful dining experiences. David brings his craft as a chef, while Hayley brings her wine and beverage expertise along with a talent for crafting memorable, thoughtful dining moments. Rooted in Maine, their work follows the rhythm of the seasons and celebrates the farmers, fishermen, and foragers who shape this place we call home. Together they share their culinary and event genius as Greenleaf & Sonder.
Chef David O’Brien
spent his teenage years blueberry harvesting and cooking for local fishermen on Mount Desert Island. He trained at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, graduating to a position at Michelin-starred Wallse before making his way back to New England to chef for Portland's 555 and the rural Burning Tree. His goal is lofty but simple: to elevate modern Maine cuisine into something accessible, inviting, and authentically from this very special state he calls home.
Hayley Hastings
has built extensive hospitality experience across Oregon, Massachusetts, and New York before returning home to Maine. With a focus on creating memorable, one-of-a-kind experiences, Hayley is dedicated to bringing people together over the shared joy of good food, drink, and connection.
